What Did Judge Jeanine Say to Whoopi
The morning after her segment on "The View" turned into a shouting match with host Whoopi Goldberg, Fox News personality and former judge Jeanine Pirro made an appearance on "Fox and Friends" to explain her side of the story after the segment ended.
"Whoopi got angry, and what the viewing audience didn't see was they popped up the cover of my book and (after cutting to commercial) she pushed off the desk, unplugged her mic and stormed off the set," Pirro said. "I'm there saying... 'I don't think the segment's over'... So I take off my own mic, and... go down the stairs and she's right there."
"I said something like, 'Whoopi, you know I spent my whole life fighting for victims,' because we had talked about rapes and all that. And she said to me -- she got up in my face... she said "(expletive) you, (expletive) you.'"
Pirro denied doing anything to provoke Goldberg: "You can ask the people I was with. She was nuts going off the set, and then... as I started walking out the building, this woman is yelling behind me, 'get the (expletive) out of this building.'
"I've been a judge and prosecutor for 30 years, I can go toe-to-toe with anybody," Pirro said. "But that was abuse. It was a sad moment. She was triggered and I never understood triggering."
Later Friday morning, Goldberg responded to Pirro's comments on "The View".
"There's a lot of spin that she's doing, and I can't do anything about that, but I can tell you what went on," she said. "She was upset when she got here because Ana Navarro was here instead of Joy (Behar). And after the segment, which ended when it was supposed to -- it was not early, it was not late. She then called everybody at the table a name I cannot repeat on TV and said it in front of the audience."
She continued: "When I came off stage, I went over there because I was a little hot. She came off, she could have just passed me. She didn't need to stop, but she stopped. She put a finger in my face, and yelled, 'I've done more for victims than you ever will.' Then I said some few choice words that I cannot repeat. Yes, I did say it. But I did not spit on her, I did not intimidate her, no one chased her out of here saying 'get out.' But she did leave here cursing at the people who booked the show, cursed at the guys who do security for the show.
"For 20 years, this show has always had people on with different views, like Newt Gingrich, Corey Lewandowski, Charlotte Pence, Sarah Sanders. Jeanine, good luck with your book," Goldberg concluded. "Look, you can come to this show. We treat everybody with respect. But you cannot come and call people names."
Pirro visited the set of "The View" on Thursday morning to promote her new book, "Liars, Leakers and Liberals: The Case Against the Anti-Trump Conspiracy." But there wasn't much discussion about the upcoming book after Pirro made a comment to Goldberg, who had been trying to ask Pirro a question about the president.
"You suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome," Pirro said, pointing at Goldberg. The term, which stemmed from "Bush Derangement Syndrome," has been used by Trump supporters to suggest that those who do not support the president are unable to think clearly and logically about the state of the country.
"Let me tell you what I have," Goldberg began. "I'm tired of people starting a conversation with 'Mexicans are liars and rapists.' I'm 62 years old. There have been a lot of people in office that I didn't agree with. But I have never, ever seen anything like this. I have never seen anybody whip up such hate. I have never seen anybody be so dismissive."
She continued: "Clearly, you don't watch the show, so you don't know that I don't suffer from that. What I suffer from is the inability to figure out how to fix this."
Goldberg then attempted to switch topics to the "deep state." Instead, a shouting match erupted as both women debated what is most horrible about the country today: Pirro claimed those entering the country illegally were killing U.S. citizens; Goldberg countered that the president's rhetoric was inciting violence toward minorities.
"Say goodbye. Bye. I'm done," Goldberg said, ripping up her cue cards.
"Wow," Pirro replied, shaking her head and rolling her eyes.
The show cut to commercial, after which Goldberg addressed the camera directly for closing thoughts: "So you saw me do something I very rarely do. I very rarely lose my cool. And I'm not proud of it. I don't like it. But I also don't like being accused of being hysterical. That's one of the things I try not to be on this show. So have a great day."
